Smooth repair. Excellent guidance. Excellent product. September 5, 2010 alexey Nice instructions. After I followed them, the bulleye and all small star-like cracks disappeared!! There is residual damage deep inside the glass still visible, but I'm not sure at all that even professional repair at repair shop may help with those deep into other glass layers. Still, 95% of problems is solved in 15 min!! Pretty happy to get rid of the problem at under $10 (while auto glass specialists asked $80 for the dent), and still have plenty of resin to fix other dents/cracks in the future!!
One precaution: be sure not to add excessive amount of resin, it will spread around the repair area and if thick may be visible after the resin dries out. Using razor to clean it out does not help if the patch is thick, 'cause you will see edges of the patch anyway. So save your resin, and you'll be fine!!
Decent seal, cheap fix! September 4, 2010 DesertGardenDiva (Santa Fe, NM) I used this product to fill several chips after a speeding landscape truck pelted my 6-day-old windshield on the freeway. With six visible chips, the windsheild people recommended another total replacement (um, no, I had paid them $200 less than a week prior), so instead I thought I'd give the $13 fix a shot.
The product actually worked best on the two most offensive/deepest chips, which were starting to get that bullseye look. I followed the instructions to a tee, and the little seal tool patched them right up with optical quality resin - can't even tell they were there. The product didn't work as well on the more subtle "skids" where the points of impact were sort of "frosted" in appearance, but it didn't hurt, and it's cheaper than a new windshield.
Not perfect but very effective August 13, 2010 M. Briner I didn't expect an inexpensive product intended for novice users to be perfect in every respect, and this wasn't.
However, with a few adjustments to the application, I was able to successfully repair damage to two windshields.
I had a very small starburst impact on a Camry windshield which was repaired following the included instructions exactly. The dark cracks emanating from the impact divot disappeared. There is only a slight opaque spot noticeable in the center of the impact divot which I could possibly treat with further applications of the product. It's not bothersome, so I won't take time for that.
A slightly larger starburst impact on a Chevy van was more difficult to fix. The van windshield is more vertical than a Camry's, and the repair kit was more difficult to use as a result. The resin didn't easily fall down the application chamber and I found myself using perhaps 10 drops total for a starburst the size of a dime. Eventually the black cracks emanating from the impact divot turned mostly translucent. Only a few very fine hairline crack marks remained.
In order to get the resin to seep into these cracks on a van windshield I needed to adjust the procedure in the following ways:
1 - I used more resin drops - about 10 total
2 - I allowed much more time for the resin to seep in - at least a half-hour
3 - I adjusted the rubber tip on the applicator numerous times, loosening it to allow a little resin to seep out from the chamber and then tightening to apply pressure to the escaped resin.
4 - I used a hair dryer on low setting on the inside of the windshield. As another reviewer has mentioned, this seemed to greatly facilitate the resin seepage into the deep cracks. I would be careful using the hair dryer method, however. As the instructions warn, excess heat could actually spread the crack further. I made sure the rest of the windshield was already warm, conducting the repair on a warm Southern California day. I also touched the glass with my hand to make sure that it wasn't getting too hot.
Overall I am very pleased with the product and highly recommend it.
Works great August 8, 2010 Ramon K. Kapoor (NJ, USA) I had a rock hit my windshield on my acura tl. There was a small hole on the surface of the windshield with the majority of the damage in the middle layers of the windshield, a bullseye impact with some starring. I ordered this kit in hopes of avoiding having to have the windshield replaced. I am very satisfied with the results. All the starring has disappeared, and the point of impact itself, look like no more than a little chip. You will be able to see the exact point of impact, but thats about it. The directions are very useful. Repeating step 4 and 5 is the key to getting the resin to fill the starring in properly. I used a few more drops of resin than needed, but when i was done i realized that i did not have to. Be careful when removing excess resin with the razor blade. How you do it will make the difference between a slight blemish or a perfect result. Definitely worth buying. If the directly are followed properly you will be very pleased with the results. it took my less than in hr, but taking your time and doing it right is very important. My windshield looks like new.
Works but you have to get the technique down first July 30, 2010 cyber shopper I had two dings in my windshield, from rocks. One was off to the side and one was going to stop me from passing inspection because it was in regular view. I experimented with the side one first and messed it up. I should have read the insturctions more carefully. My second repair came out much better. I also was told by a windshield shop that mildly heating the area under the repair kit with a hairdryer helped the resin flow to all areas of the cracks. I think I used about 18 drops of resin total for a complete repair. I am very happy with the results. I had a rock hit my windshield, resulting in a bullet hole kind of damage area, about 1/2" in diameter. I bought the kit and carefully studied, and followed the instructions. The key is to do the fill with resin and re-apply pressure steps multiple times.
